Let's kick things off with a look at what's already packed into our Land Rover.

On the right side, you'll see some airline lines holding a 20L water tank and a shovel – essentials for off-grid adventures. These are the tools that keep us going when the road gets a bit wild.

Moving up, the roof rack is more than just a carrier; it's our on-the-go shower tent. Privacy matters, especially in nature, and this addition has been a game-changer during our travels.

Step up, and you'll find our cozy sleeping spot – our Alu-Cab rooftop tent. it's our little haven under the stars.

Next to it, two 20L diesel tanks make sure we're fueled up for the long haul.

The built-in diesel tank on this side keeps the journey rolling smoothly, a quiet companion on our adventures. Tackling diverse terrains with confidence thanks to our BFGoodrich All Terrain tyres. These wheels are like sidekicks, gripping the earth and getting us through whatever challenges come our way.

ON THE ROAD

On our journeys, we've learned that things can break ...

... a cooling hose here, a hiccup with the transfer box there. It's part of life on the road, and we've learned to embrace the unexpected with a toolkit in hand and a smile on our faces.

PROS & CONS FOR A SECOND BUILT IN DIESEL TANK

Now, let's talk about the big decision looming over us – adding a second built-in diesel tank. We're unsure, and we've listed out the pros and cons for you to see.

GRAVEL AND SALT - defender long range tank

PROS :

  1. Extended Range:

  • With an extra tank, we can cover more miles between fuel stops, giving us flexibility in our routes.

  • It allows for more remote exploration without worrying about running low on fuel.

  1. Independence:

  • A second tank means less reliance on frequent fuel stations, giving us more independence during our travels.

  • We can venture into more remote areas with confidence, knowing we have enough fuel.

  1. Peace of Mind:

  • The extra reserve gives peace of mind, especially in regions with sparse fuel infrastructure.

  • It acts as a safety net, ensuring we're ready for unexpected situations or changes in our plans.

  1. Fuel Availability Consideration:

  • In areas where diesel might be scarce, having an additional tank ensures we're prepared.

  • It lets us plan our fuel stops more strategically, considering regions with limited access to diesel.

  1. Convenience and Efficiency:

  • An extra tank adds convenience, reducing the need for frequent fuel stops.

  • It enhances the efficiency of our travel plans, allowing longer stretches between refueling without compromising on our exploration goals.

CONS :

  1. Weight and Space:

  • The added weight could impact the Land Rover's handling.

  • We need to strike a balance between the additional weight and keeping our essentials on board.

  1. Financial Investment:

  • Adding a second tank involves some cost – not just the tank itself but also potential modifications.

  • We need to consider our budget and make sure it's a worthwhile investment.

  1. Complexity and Maintenance:

  • More components mean more potential issues and maintenance requirements.

  • Regular checks become essential to ensure everything runs smoothly.

  1. Potential Points of Failure:

  • Adding more components increases the chances of something going wrong.

  • We need to be vigilant and proactive in addressing any issues.

  1. Impact on Off-Road Performance:

  • The added weight from an extra tank might affect our Land Rover's off-road capabilities.

  • We need to ensure we maintain the vehicle's agility, crucial for navigating diverse landscapes.

OUR TAKE :

  • After weighing these pros and cons, we're leaning towards installing one additional built-in diesel tank. It strikes a balance between extended range and maintaining the simplicity and agility of our Land Rover. We appreciate your insights as we navigate this decision.
